EA’s 2017 E3 Press Conference

Although again not officially part of the E3 event, as it hosts its own EA Play event elsewhere in LA, Electronic Arts kicked off the big gaming weekend with its press conference.

First up was the announcement of a new campaign mode for Madden 18 called The Longshot, which is very much in vein of the very popular The Journey from FIFA 17.

After a montage was shown of Battlefield 1 players raving about how strong the multiplayer community is, we were given the details of the new DLC, In The Name of the Tsar.  The action takes place on the Eastern Front, featuring the Russian Army, and introduces the Women’s Battalion of Death, the first time a female character can be played as in Battlefield. There will be a total of 8 new maps coming soon to play, including some smaller more intense maps more in the style of COD that the fans have been asking for, and also the debut of Nightmaps, billed as a new way to play as the game goes into night time warfare.

The spotlight switched back to EA Sports with a great video featuring stars of the football world talking about what might happen next for the star of last season, the one and only Alex Hunter  We soon found out with the announcement of a new season of The Journey: Hunter Returns in FIFA 18.

The next game to be featured was the next installment in the Need For Speed franchise, Need For Speed: Payback.  With a new narrative style for the series where you play the game as 3 different characters we were treated to a gameplay demo featuring a stunning looking high speed heist mission,  The developers revealed even more car customisation than in previous NFS games, and a feature with classic cars the called Relics, which sounds very similar to the barn finds in the Forza Horizon series,

As part of the successful EA Originals program, was the announcement of a brand new game from Hazelight Studios, the makers of Brothers. A Way Out is story driven prison break adventure that is played in co-op splitscreen only, either locally or online, and is scheduled for a release at the start of 2018,

Bioware gave a very short teaser trailer of a brand new IP, called Anthem, with the promise of more to be revealed in the E3 press conference from Microsoft.

Next on the agenda was the offical reveal of NBA Live 2018, with the emphasis on a new career gameplay mode called The One.  You build your character as you begin as a rookie player and can either play in The League, The Streets or a combination of the both in your quest to become a top player.

The final and by far largest portion of the EA presentation focused on Star Wars Battlefront II.  Earlier in the conference, Dice producer Andrew Gullota had joked that they had taken note of a lot of the ‘not so positive’ feedback from the fans regarding the first Star Wars Battlefront game, and promised fans a single player campaign mode featuring original characters in a new storyline that fits into the Star Wars timeline between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.  Star Wars star John Boyega appeared on video revealing his character Finn will be one of the heroes available in Battlefront II.  An announcement tht had the crowd cheering was that any post launch DLC would be available free to all players.  The presentation ended on a high with a live multiplayer battle, a 20 v 20 game of Assault on Theed.

Really looking forward to A Way Out. That for me was the standout of the conference.
