Grim Legends 2: Song Of The Dark Swan

GET READY TO RULE THE SWAN KINGDOM IN GRIM LEGENDS 2!!

Grim Legends 2: Song of the Dark Swan. You are a well known, world wide healer who is brought to the Swan Kingdom to take a look at the poor queen who has lost her voice. Well, Well, Well. Where do I even start with this game. I have never played a game quite like this and most probably never will again.

Unfortunately Grim Legends 2 is exactly that Grim, there are some positives to the Swan Kingdom but I think it has reached the wrong reviewer. It is not a game I would personally play and maybe that is why I`ve not enjoyed my time with it!

If you are a lover of a puzzle solving Artifex Mundi game, then yes this is the game for you. Released in 2014 it is the second instalment in the Grim Legends series, based on the classic tale of “The Six Swans”. If you played Ghost Files, Queens Quest or Persian nights then you know exactly what to expect from the Artifex developers.

Once you reach the Swan Kingdom, the puzzles begin… why doesn’t the queen speak? What is holding her back? Could it be the nagging mother-in-law? (I know it puts most of us into silence) What is the deal of the red ruby being put in tree? All I’m going to say is that I don’t trust that woman at all.

As I said earlier, there are some positives from the game. The intensive story line is really detailed, which matches the hand crafted, picturesque hand painted images on which you spend several minutes or several hours trying to solve some of the most difficult puzzles. There are over 30 stunning images in the Swan kingdom each as beautiful as the last.
The other positive to this game is the longevity, there are 23 mini games and 12 hidden object scenes to coincide with the story missions itself and if you do find the compelling need to replay the game then there are 3 difficulty settings and an expansion pack to keep you busy. Although you could probably get through this game in about 3 to 4 hours.

The controls are simple enough. All you need to do is chose where you want to go and select it. That is it. You never really see who you are playing as so you don’t have to guide them around. There is a hint button if you get stuck which has a few seconds reload time so if you are really stuck you can just ask for hints to get you by. Also in the mini games if you can’t be bothered or just generally don’t know what to do, you can also skip those. You get quite a few surprises whilst travelling around the swan kingdom in the forms of little helpers. Is there that ribbon that’s to far away to reach? don’t worry a trusty sparrow will help. A rat stopping you from grabbing truffles? don`t worry, an otter is around to save the day. There are several of these companions scattered around.

I suppose this game is all about fan taste, my better half really enjoyed it she said it was graphically pleasing, challenging, and kept her quiet for a good few hours, whereas I found it tedious, repetitive and quite frankly boring. If you are to play this game then search everywhere, even if you have to back a few times it will save you time in the long run.

Maybe I am being to harsh but this one isn’t for me!! Good luck puzzle explorers, hopefully Grim Legends 2 will not be as bad for you as it was for me.

I do love a game that appears to be different. I like games that offer a good variety, and games that are a little bit different. I also love games that have made the switch from a PC or mobile port, and moved everything over the console. I really, really do, and the reason I do is because I...
