Are we getting a Elite Controller version 2?
Could we be about to get a new controller?
According to Tom Warren of The Verge, we may get our first glimpse of the fabled Elite Controller Version 2 at this year’s Gamescom.
Rumours have been rife online since long before E3 that Microsoft were preparing to launch a successor to the original Elite which is aimed squarely at professional gamers (and those with money to burn). A vocal minority have been critical of the build quality of the original; this, coupled with the high price has prevented the controller being more than a niche product.
However, if Microsoft have lavished as much love and attention to the V2 as they did with the recently launched Adaptive Controller, we may be in for a treat.
The original Elite is a joy to use, fully customisable, with extra paddles and an abundance of mapping options. Despite the build issues encountered by some, there is no going back to a standard controller once you’ve used an Elite (and I say that as a firm believer that the Xbox One standard controller is the best mainstream console controller ever produced).
As of now, this is most definitely a rumour, but Tom Warren and The Verge have an impressive habit of being right on all things Microsoft and Xbox. If they’re right about this, and Microsoft have improved on the original (and perhaps even reduced the price from the £119.99 associated with V1), we may be in for a treat.
