Mages Of Mystralia – Xbox One Review

Cast away demons in Mages Of Mystralia!!

Mages of Mystralia has a very weary feel to it.. it feels like i have played it somewhere before or played something similar and i can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe i have just dreamed it but i am sure i have played a game just like it before. Either way this is actually quite a decent game.

Mages of Mystralia was only released a few days ago by Borealys Games and you will not believe who they got to write the storyline for them.. None other then one of the best selling authors and most notorious for writing fantasy novels, Ed Greenwood. Yes the same Ed Greenwood who created the Forgotten Realms in Dungeons and Dragons. So most of you by now have probably stopped reading this and bought the game and to be fair i don’t blame you.

You start the game as a young girl named Zia, a lovely red headed girl who was born in the Kingdom of Mystrali, unfortunately she was born with magical powers which has been banned from Mystralia because of an evil mage who took to the throne many moons ago. Poor Zia doesn’t have a grasp of her powers and accidentally burns down her house killing the ones she loved so much. Fortunately for Zia she escapes unharmed and finds herself in the woods when a strange man approaches her. This has red flags flying … why is there a strange 30+ year old man approaching a 12 year old in a deep dark forest?? It’s okay, it’s okay, nothing sinister happens, he’s a friend in fact he is your mentor he will guide you on your quest to restore peace and balance to the Kingdom.

There are a lot of various monstors to beat on your quest some as simple as goblins others as difficult as a giant tree, and you have four spells at your disposal. You have Immedi, which is basically lightning, Actus, which is fire, Creo which is ice and finally Ego, which is a defense shield. These may sound very basic but this game has done something very rare. It has created a unique way to upgrade all spells and you can control what to do with them. You can chose what your spells can do do and i love it, long range, short range, charge, it has the lot.

So we have an excellent story-line, easy to learn control system, surely something has to give… well actually no, the soundtrack fits in with the game and is actually the same orchestra from Final Fantasy XV. It isn’t boring, multiple puzzles, bosses, and obstacles each more different and challenging then the last. Is it short then? Well no with over a dozen distinct regions to explore there is plenty to see and do, if you do complete it there is always hard mode to sink your teeth in to. So it must be the graphics then? Well actually again no it fits in really well with the game, its like a cartoon being brought to life.

You would think that all the goodness that this game has to offer it would come with a hefty price tag well actually no for me it is one of the best games out there for less them £20. Well done Borealys Games!!! 5 stars!!!!!
