Oh…Sir! The Hollywood Roast – Xbox One Review

Our Xbox One Review of Oh…Sir! The Hollywood Roast

Oh…Sir! The Hollywood Roast is a spin off to the indie hit ‘Oh…Sir! The Insult Simulator. This time you play as famous hollywood actors but with a twist. Due to legal reasons all characters have been modified a little but are still obvious to who they’re meant to be. Each character has a different theme therfore giving them all different weaknesses. I m going to talk about 3 of the characters you have from the start.

The first character I want to talk about is Dirty Potter. I don’t think I need to explain who this is meant to be. Dirty Potters weakness is ‘Manliness’ so using phrases such as ‘Can’t grow a beard’ will get you bonus points against this character. The next character I want to talk about is Marylin Nomore. Again, don’t really need to explain who this is either. Her weakness is ‘Age and Beauty’ so if you want bonus points then be sure to talk about ‘Her last Plastic Surgry’. The final character I wanted to talk about is called The Greasy Wizard. At fist I thought it was meant to be from the same film as Dirty Potter but when you come up against him, he starts talking about a ring and hobbits. It was clear then who this was meamt to be. The Greasy Wizards weakness is ‘Trouble with the Law’ so try to mention Cops or Judges when possible.

The first thing I did when I loaded into the game was choose ‘Acting Class’. This is basically the tutorial and teachers you how to play. The objective pf the game is to insult your opponent much as possible and get all their health to the bottom before they do it to you. There is a selection of phrases in the middle of the screen that you both take it in turn to choose from. As well as this you each have a couple of bonus phrases that are exclusive to you that turn. If your ‘Roast’ doesn’t make sense then you will stumble on your words and not get any points that turn. As mentioned earlier each character has their own weakness so try and exploit your opponents.

Every round that you take damage your ‘Comeback’ meter will rise. It has 3 tiers and the longer that you wait the higher the more it will fill up. After the first tier is full you can use a comeback to get you more points. If you wait for the high tiers to fill you will get more points. You can also get bonus points by getting a combo. If you use the same insult more than once you get double points for it. If you both lose all your health on the same round then it goes to a ‘Cliffhanger’. A Cliffhanger is sudden death and whoever gets the most points on the next round wins the game.

After Acting class had finished I decided to play career mode. I really enjoyed playing career mode, it was simple yet fun. You choose the character you want to play as and then you will have to go through 5 different opponents. Beat all 5 to complete the career. However if you want to 100% a career you will need to collect all 15 Parrots. Each opponent offers 3 golden parrots for you to collect. This will be different for every character but can be as simple as ‘Win the Roast’ to as tricky as ‘Use 3 comebacks against your opponent’. This can be tricky as your opponent may not do enough damage to you for you to be able to use 3 comebacks. The good thing is that you can go back and reply any mission whenever you want so don’t worry if you miss one.

I was really pleased when I noticed that there was multiplayer. I had thought this game would have done really well online. I noticed there were 2 different types of multiplayer ‘Couch and Online’. Couch multiplayer could be good to play if you had people over for the night and possibly even with your family. Online on the other hand. I struggled to find a game. I’m not sure if its because you have to match up with someone search for the same venue or if its something else but I really struggled to find a game. You can also play online with a friend who also owns the game which I thought was a good feature.

I really enjoyed playing this game and am definitely going to go back to unlock some new characters, get more achievements and collect all the golden parrots and for a price of £3.99 I recommend you do too!
