Red Dead Online Beta Launches

Now that Red Dead Redemption 2 has been out a month, Rockstar Games are ready to launch the online mode, Red Dead Online, starting with a Beta build.  Early access begins on Tuesday 27th November, with full public access available from Friday 30th.  Players of the original Red Dead Redemption’s online mode should see features they remember, as this has been used as inspiration, but Rockstar are at pains to emphasise that Red Dead Online has been built from the ground up specifically for the latest hardware.  The idea is for the game to evolve over time, in a similar way to GTA Online, with new features and content being introduced at regular intervals.

You’ll be able to create and customize your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style and head out into a new frontier full of things to experience.  Play either solo or team up with friends or strangers to form a Posse of up to seven players, gather round the camp fire, then head out looking for adventure.  You can battle enemy gangs and attack their hideouts, take on specific missions, or just go out fishing hunting or exploring.

The developers will be looking for feedback from the community to help them report and fix problems, and help shape the future of the full game.

Access will roll out as follows:

  • Tuesday, November 27th: All Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition owners. Please note, players who purchased the physical Ultimate Edition must redeem the Ultimate Edition code in the packaging to be eligible.
  • Wednesday, November 28th: All players who played Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26th according to our data.
  • Thursday, November 29th: All players who played Red Dead Redemption 2 between October 26th to October 29th according to our data.
  • Friday, November 30th: All players who own Red Dead Redemption 2.

To access the online mode on Xbox One, all you need to do is boot up Red Dead Redemption 2 and on the title screen, select Online when it appears in the top right hand corner of the screen.
